How to Assemble Your Paper Plate Heart Wreath

1.  Cut out a large hole in the middle of the paper plate.

2.  Fold a piece of construction paper over 4 times and cut half of a heart at the fold so that you will end up with 8 hearts.  Repeat this for as many colours as you would like to use.

3.  Glue the hearts on to the paper plate, covering most of the white background.

4.  Let it dry for 10 minutes and then hang it up and enjoy!

Making a Chinese Drum

Chinese New Year is for celebrating and making noise!  One traditional instrument is this type of Chinese drum.  Kids love the sounds that it makes and the way in which they play this fun instrument.  Learning about Chinese New Year, try these great foods and other crafts for kids.

Materials:

paper plates
popsicle stick
string
beads
hole punch
glue
scissors
optional for decorating:

paint
stickers
construction paper
glitter

Instructions:

1. Lay one paper plate face up and glue the popsicle stick to the edge of it to make a handle.

2.  Put a line of glue all around the rim of the plate and place the other plate face down on top of it.  Allow the glue to dry.

3. Once the glue has dried punch 2 holes along the rim of the plate on opposites sides of each other.

4. String some beads onto two pieces of string, then thread the string through the holes and tie a knot.

5. Now you can shake the drum back and forth.  The beads will hit either side of the plate and make a "drumming" noise.

Feel free to decorate the drum any way you'd like.  If you choose to paint, you may want to paint before you punch the holes in it.

Easy 10 minute Snowball Wreath Craft

easy snowball wreath craft

Looking for an easy winter craft you can do in under 10 minutes? Try momstown’s Easy Snowball Wreath!

I’m always amazed about how many craft ideas can be spun out of a paper plate! It’s a cheap craft supply with endless ideas to work it into. Our snowball wreath is yet another paper plate craft that looks so cute, so easy and inexpensive. Perfect combination for crafting!

Craft Supplies you will need:

  • Paper plate
  • Scissors
  • Pompoms or cotton balls
  • Glue – white glue preferred for preschoolers
  • Snowflake décor (optional, we had the plastic snowflakes leftover from Christmas)
  • Ribbon for hanging

This is a very simple and easy craft - you need to do is cut the centre out of the plate. Then start gluing cotton balls directly onto the remaining plate, you will probably need to glue in two rows.

Once glue is dry, tie a ribbon around to hang the wreath. You may chose to add some little snowflakes (paper ones would be sweet too) to hang into the middle like my son did with thread we tied to the top of the wreath).

Note: My son has taken a recent major interest in the glue gun, so we used it for this activity. Although it dries quickly, I would not recommend it for this project. Hot glue and paper plate (which transfers heat) – not suggested.  We didn’t have any issues but were very careful and if I were to do over, I would totally use white glue which would work better given the materials.

Simple Christmas Wreath Craft

tissue paper christmas craft

So pretty and so simple. A perfect Christmas craft which creates results in minimal time – super combination for a busy preschooler.

What you need:
Paper Plate
Scissors and white glue
Green and Red Tissue Paper cut into 2 inch squares
Red Ribbon and/ or Pipecleaner

Cut the centre out of the paper plate. Get busy gluing and scrunching up the tissue paper. Stick as much tissue paper on to cover up the whole paper plate.  All ages will love this, younger children may need some help to fill it all in and older kids will create truly beautiful masterpieces.

Once dry add a pretty bow and a length of ribbon or pipecleaner to hang it up. Watch your child's face beam with pride that their handiwork is so beautiful!

Halloween Spider Web Weaving Craft

Ever wish you had a trick to keep your little Halloween goblins quiet for a moment? Need an activity to keep kids keenly focused and also helps with hand-eye co-ordination? AND has a Halloween theme?

Try our Halloween Spider Web Weaving Craft! momstown Hamilton had this terrific activity going during their Halloween Boo Bash this fall and it was a hit! Perfect for children who can manipulate the yarn and holes (3 years+) and fun to do with their parent if younger.

spider web paper plate craft

You need four things only for this no-glue craft:

1. Strong Paper Plate

2. Hole Punch

3. White Yarn

4. Scissors

Simply cut out the middle of the paper plate (or if your child is comfortable with scissors, have them do it). Then holepunch around the outside of the paper plate every couple of inches.

Loop and tie one end of the yarn through the plate. Show your children how to find another hole (ideally across the hole in the plate to create the strips of "web") then loop through another and another. When it won't stretch any further, tie it off in the last hole.

When cutting a length of yarn, estimate one that will easily stretch across the plate 4-5 times. If it too long, it will get tangled in te 'weaving' process and frustrate your child. It's better to have shorter yarn that you can do a couple of times than have a frustrated kiddo.

Have fun and thanks to momstown Hamilton for the awesome idea and great fun!

Footprint Turkey Wreaths: An Easy Thanksgiving Craft and Keepsake for Kids

Thanksgiving is a great time to get the kids involved in crafts that are also keepsakes. After all, one of the things we are most thankful for is our friends and family. Hand and footprint crafts capture a moment in time, and remind us of how small we were, and how much we have grown. This footprint turkey wreath is an easy fall craft that your toddler or preschooler can make now, and that can serve as a decoration for years to come.

Here is what you need to make your own Thanksgiving Footprint Turkey Wreath:

  • a paper plate
  • brown construction paper
  • scraps of yellow and orange construction paper
  • squares or scraps of red, orange, yellow, and brown tissue paper
  • a black marker
  • scissors
  • glue

1. Cut the centre out of a paper plate (an adult's job).  Spread glue onto the paper plate, and cover with squares of tissue paper:

3. Trace your foot onto brown construction paper.  Cut out.  Use your marker to add two eyes, and glue on a orange beak.

4. Cut two long strips of yellow construciton paper, and accordian fold each one.  Glue to the bottom of the turkey's body to form its legs.

5. Glue the turkey's body to the bottom of your wreath, and hang your wreath on the door.  Happy Thanksgiving!
