There are lots of other ways to incorporate water at the party though - sprinklers, slip n slides, and wading pools will all be a hit!

Clay Sea Stars

Can you guess who I can be? I'm not a fish, but I live in the sea. I have five arms to wave good-bye. I'm a star, but I'm not in the sky.*

  • Plastic knife
  • Dried peas, beans and unpopped popcorn

Shape the clay into a pancake.
Use the plastic knife to cut out the sea star shape.

Press the dried beans and seeds into the arms to create the spiny skin.

Let the clay air-dry to harden.

Air Dry Play Clay can be quite costly to purchase at a craft store, yet its easy and inexpensive to make at home. Here's how!

1) Mix 1 cup of baking soda and 1/2 cup of cornstarch in a pan.

2) Add 2/3 cup warm water and stire until smooth.

3) Bring to a boil over medium heat.

4) Continue to cook until the consistency of mashed potatos is reached.

5) Pour onto a cutting board to cool.

6) Knead the dough with your hands. You can add food coloring at this point or paint your finished pieces.

Dough will harden quickly when left to air dry. Store in an airtight container for several weeks!

Submitted by our momstown Edmonton South chapter. They did this craft for a themed event, Under the Sea. *
