Has your child ever asked how Santa and his reindeer find your house? How on a dark and snowy night can he tell everyone’s house from one another? The light frm the moon and stars can’t be enough, can it??
You, smart momstown Mommy, have a MAGIC answer.
Introduce “Reindeer Dust”. Yep, reindeer dust and Mommy knows the special ingredients to make it from scratch. It will draw sparkly attention to your lawn and house so make sure Rudolph guides Santa Claus just right. ;)
The idea behind this is a simple, mostly organic, mixture to sprinkle at your house, maybe on the sidewalk to draw “attention”.
Mix in a bowl (amounts are random, make what you think you will need):
- Oatmeal (food for reindeer)
- White Sugar (sweet scent for the reindeer)
- Sparkles (reindeers light shiny bright things to guide them) We like the craft ones since they are the most sparkly. If you want it all edible, use decorating sprinkles
Mix together in a big bowl and then scoop into paper or plastic bags for individual kids.
How to inject the “magic”? Try singing a special Christmas carol while mixing to give the mixture it’s magic.
Another idea is to read a poem like this one while mixing or when sprinking. Kids love the magic idea so play it up big! You could even start a tradition of everyone wearing elf hats, singing and dancing loudly or something else fun while concocting your ‘dust’.
One poem momstown likes is:
Magic Food glow real bright
Bring Santa to my house tonight
Show the reindeer where to go
from the night sky they’ll see you glow
On Christmas Eve, day or night, take your child outside and let them sprinkle it at their will. Reminding them that Santa will be drawn to this magic reindeer dust once it's dark.
This is a very cute, fun (and cheap!) idea to make for all the kids in their class. Include with a little card explaining what the mixture is and what to do with it. This one below also comes with a free printable here:
Another poem we love is:
When Santa’s sleigh is full of toys
Ready for Christmas Day
Use this special magic dust
To help him find his way
Just sprinkle it outside your door
Make a wish and really believe
The reindeer will smell the oats
And bring Santa on Christmas Eve
